TE H2 and VERBUND partner on green hydrogen project in Tunisia

TE H2, a joint-venture between TotalEnergies and EREN Groupe, together with VERBUND has partnered with the Republic of Tunisia to study the implementation of a large green hydrogen project named “H2 Notos” for export to Central Europe through pipelines. H2 Notos plans to generate green hydrogen by using electrolysers powered by large-scale onshore wind and solar projects, with desalinated sea water as a resource.

RWE plans to develop green hydrogen project in Scotland

RWE announced plans to develop a green hydrogen project in Grangemouth, Scotland. Under the terms of the project, RWE will supply the first hydrogen produced to INEOS Grangemouth. Once completed, approved, and operational, the initial capacity is expected to be up to 200 MWe, capable of producing up to 3.6 tonnes of hydrogen per hour, with the possibility of expanding to 600 Mwe later.

Thyssenkrupp Nucera has secured a contract to supply a 300 MW electrolyser for Cepsa’s green hydrogen facility in Spain. Under an agreement announced at the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam, Cepsa has awarded the electrolyser specialist a contract to provide a basic engineering design package and assist in the facility’s design and engineering process up to the Final Investment Decision (FID).

Plug Power and AGA sign 3 GW electrolyser supply deal

Plug Power has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Allied Green Ammonia (AGA) to deliver up to 3 GW of Plug electrolyzer capacity for AGA’s upcoming hydrogen to ammonia facility planned for the Northern Territory of Australia. AGA’s production facility is set to run a green ammonia process with a capacity of 2,500 metric tons per day. The gradual delivery of the 3 GW electrolyzer supply is planned to commence in the first quarter of 2027.

European Hydrogen Bank Pilot Auction Results

The first EU-wide auction (IF23 Auction) for the production of RFNBO (renewable fuel of non-biological origin) hydrogen was launched on 23 November 2023 and closed on 8 February 2024. The auction attracted 132 projects bids from 17 European countries. After evaluation, seven renewable hydrogen projects were selected and will receive nearly €720 million in project support from the Innovation Fund. Altogether, the selected projects will cover 1.5 Gigawatts electric (GWe) of electrolyser capacity, and produce a total volume of 1.58 million tonnes of RFNBO hydrogen over ten years.

CIP secures grants for 1 GW green hydrogen projects

Two hydrogen projects owned by CI Energy Transition Fund I, managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners have secured grants from the European Commission in its first European Hydrogen Bank auction. Catalina was awarded €230 million while Madoqua was awarded €245 million. Together, they represent a combined electrolyser capacity of 1,000 MW.

Hydrogen is developing fast in Japan, edging nearer to wider use in society

Hydrogen, largely expected to be the next-generation energy source, holds its greatest promise in generating electricity and heat without emitting carbon dioxide while being abundantly available in water and diverse sources, including fossil energy. Fortescue opens 2 GW electrolyser facility in Australia

Fortescue Ltd, an Australian metal mining and green energy company has formally established a production plant in Gladstone, Queensland, with the capacity to produce over 2 GW of electrolyser stacks annually. This is one of the first factories in the world to produce Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyser stacks with an automated assembly line. The plant will manufacture electrolysers that Fortescue teams in the US and Australia created internally.
