Ohmium launches new green-hydrogen electrolyser gigafactory in India

Ohmium, a US-based green hydrogen focused organisation that develops Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysers has launched a new gigafactory in Bengaluru, India. It has a production space of 14,000 square meters and will be shipping 2 GW of fully assembled and tested electrolyser systems.  This is Ohmium’s second manufacturing facility in India, and brings key manufacturing, assembly, quality assurance, testing, warehouse and shipping facilities under one roof.

India issues guidelines for 450,000 MTPA of green hydrogen

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) of India has released guidelines for disbursement of incentives for the production of up to 450,000 metric tonnes (MT) per year of green hydrogen as part of Component II (Mode 1, Tranche II) of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) programme. The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has been assigned the responsibility of supervising the competitive bidding process and managing the implementation of the programme.

Renewable Energy Directive Industry Target in Europe

On 20 November 2023, Directive 2023/2413 as regards to the promotion of energy from renewable sources (REDIII) entered into force, thereby amending the previous Directive 2018/2001 (REDII). The new directive aims to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels in the industry sector, as well as to decarbonise industrial emissions (recitals 59-61). Thus, it introduces notable changes by mandating the sector to increase the contribution of renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RNFBO). More specifically, under art. 22a(1), para. 5, an obligation is placed on Member States to ensure that by 2030, RFNBO makeup at least 42% of hydrogen used for final energy and non-energy purposes in industry, rising to 60% by 2035.

Voltalia and Taqa Arabia to develop renewable energy and green hydrogen in Egypt

Voltalia, in partnership with TAQA Arabia, signed a framework agreement at the Egypt-EU Investment Conference 2024, which took place on June 29 and 30 in Cairo. Following a MoU signed in December 2022, the agreement aims to develop a cluster that integrates renewable energy and green hydrogen production. The project will be carried out in two identical phases, with each phase incorporating a 500 MW electrolyzer powered by more than 1.3 GW of solar and wind energy.

KKR and IGNIS join forces to develop green hydrogen, ammonia and other green technologies

KR and IGNIS have partnered to launch IGNIS P2X. IGNIS P2X is a new Power-to-X platform to develop green hydrogen and ammonia projects for industrial applications in hard-to-abate sectors. KKR will invest up to €400 million in the development and construction of future projects. Both the companies will own 50 per cent stake each in IGNIS P2X.

McDermott to construct green hydrogen and ammonia production plant in Canada

McDermott has secured an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) agreement from Abraxas Power Corporation for the Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation project situated in Central Newfoundland, Canada. Furthermore, the commercial green hydrogen and ammonia facility will comprise the development of a wind farm with up to 530 turbines capable of generating 3.5 GW of electricity, along with a 150 MW solar photovoltaic installation.

TE H2, a joint-venture between TotalEnergies and EREN Groupe, together with VERBUND has partnered with the Republic of Tunisia to study the implementation of a large green hydrogen project named “H2 Notos” for export to Central Europe through pipelines. H2 Notos plans to generate green hydrogen by using electrolysers powered by large-scale onshore wind and solar projects, with desalinated sea water as a resource.

RWE plans to develop green hydrogen project in Scotland

RWE announced plans to develop a green hydrogen project in Grangemouth, Scotland. Under the terms of the project, RWE will supply the first hydrogen produced to INEOS Grangemouth. Once completed, approved, and operational, the initial capacity is expected to be up to 200 MWe, capable of producing up to 3.6 tonnes of hydrogen per hour, with the possibility of expanding to 600 Mwe later.
