Mitsubishi Power co-develops battery storage projects in Ireland

Mitsubishi Power, a Japanese power company, will collaborate with renewable energy developer ION Renewables to construct four battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Ireland. Ion Renewables has signed an exclusive agreement with Mitsubishi Power Americas for the four projects, which will use Mitsubishi’s Emerald storage solutions and have a combined capacity of 185.5MW or 371MWh.

EDF Renewables wins NYSERDA’s solar and storage contract

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has awarded EDF Renewables North America a 1 GW solar and battery storage contract as part of its 2021 solicitation for large-scale renewable energy certificates. The Columbia Solar Energy Centre and Ridge View Solar Energy Centre, each with 350 MWac of capacity and 20 MW of co-located battery storage, are among the solar projects included in the contract.

Agilitas raises $350 million to develop renewable energy projects

Agilitas Energy, a US-based energy asset developer, has raised $350 million in equity capital to construct a national renewable energy and storage platform. CarVal Investors, a global alternative investment company, managed the two-tiered investment. The funds will be used by Agilitas Energy to accelerate the development, construction, and operation of distributed and utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage projects in the US.

Innergex selects Mitsubishi Power for BESS projects 

Innergex Renewable Energy, a Canadian power company, has selected Mitsubishi Power’s Emerald Storage Solution for battery energy storage (BESS) projects in Chile’s Atacama Desert. The contracts are for Innergex’s 68 MW Salvador and 50.6 MW San Andres solar plants, which are slated to begin construction next year. The five-hour energy duration projects will cost $128.5 million in total and have a combined capacity of 85 MW/425 MWh.

Appalachian Power issues tender for 300 MW of renewable power with storage

AES Clean Energy has announced the closing of the $154.2 million in non-recourse debt financing for Luna Storage, a 400 MWh standalone battery storage project in California. The project is located in the city of Lancaster in Los Angeles County in California. The fund was raised by KeyBanc Capital Markets Inc., Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, Silicon Valley Bank, and Export Development Canada. The transaction was closed by sPower, an independent power producer, which merged in January 2021 to become a part of AES Clean Energy’s business in the United States.

It is estimated to cost Euro 1 billion and will be managed by French energy regulator CRE.
