US BOEM halts construction of Revolution Wind offshore project 

The US Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has directed Revolution Wind LLC, a joint venture of Ørsted and Global Infrastructure Partners’ Skyborn Renewables, to stop activities on the outer continental shelf related to the Revolution Wind project. Revolution Wind has begun implementing the order. At present, the project is about 80 per cent complete.

Yunlin offshore wind farm begins commercial operations in Taiwan

The Yunlin offshore wind farm of the Yunneng Wind Power Co. Ltd. has started commercial operations with an installed capacity of 640 MW. The project comprises 80 wind turbine generators. It is located in the Taiwan Strait, 8 to 17 km off the west coast. The wind farm has obtained the required electricity business licences, complied with regulatory requirements, and met contractual obligations under its financing agreement.

US initiates security probe on wind turbine imports

The US Department of Commerce has launched a national security investigation into imports of wind turbines and their components under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962. The investigation was initiated on August 13, 2025, and is intended to assess the impact of such imports on the country’s security. Public comments, data, and analyses related to the matter should be submitted to the Bureau of Industry and Security.

US issues news rules for wind and solar tax credits

The US Internal Revenue Service has released new regulations outlining stricter requirements on when construction of wind and solar projects is considered to have begun, for determining whether such projects are subject to the credit termination provisions in line with the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. India cancels two offshore wind tenders

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has scrapped two offshore wind energy tenders with a combined capacity of 4.5 GW. The tenders have been cancelled due to a lack of developers’ participation. Atmos Renewables acquires 316 MW Australian wind farm from Neoen

Atmos Renewables has acquired a majority stake in the 316 MW Hornsdale wind farm in South Australia from Neoen.The company previously held minority interests across the three stages of the project and will assume full ownership and control following the transaction. Reportedly, the settlement is expected in the latter half of 2025, subject to customary conditions precedent. The wind farm has been operational since 2017.

Vestas bags 274 MW wind order in Canada

Vestas has received a 274 MW order from EDF Power Solutions North America for the Madawaska wind project in Québec, Canada. The order includes the supply of 25 EnVentus V162-6.0 MW wind turbines and 20 EnVentus V162-6.2 MW wind turbines. Furthermore, the agreement covers a 10-year active output management 5000 service contract. Delivery of the turbines is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027.

US rescinds designated areas for offshore wind development

The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has rescinded all designated wind energy areas (WEAs) on the US Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). This action aligns with Secretary’s Order 3437 and the Presidential Memorandum dated January 20, 2025, which temporarily withdraws all areas on the OCS from offshore wind leasing and calls for a review of the federal government’s leasing and permitting practices for wind projects.

The Scottish Government has granted consent for the 4.1 GW Berwick Bank offshore wind project, located approximately 38 km off the Scottish Borders coastline. Opdenergy has acquired a portfolio of operational wind assets from  Acciona Energía. The portfolio consists of 13 wind farms, and the assets have a total capacity of 440 MW. The wind farms are situated in the regions of Albacete, Cádiz, Cuenca, Lleida, Valencia, and Zamora. Valued at over €500 million, the transaction is anticipated to close by the year’s end, subject to necessary regulatory approvals.
