OMV has inaugurated the ReOil and electrolyser facilities at the Schwechat refinery near Vienna. ReOil is a chemical recycling plant that converts hard-to-recycle plastics into virgin-quality products. The new 10 MW electrolyser facility has a production capacity of up to 1,500 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.

Furthermore, OMV has also announced plans to invest in a new green hydrogen plant in Bruck an der Leitha, Lower Austria. The investment will be utilised to develop a 140 MW electrolysis facility, subject to and under the assumption of a positive outcome of the European and Austrian Hydrogen Bank auction. The plant has an annual production capacity of up to 23,000 tonnes of green hydrogen.

The 140 MW facility is expected to start up at the end of 2027 and will produce green hydrogen using renewable energy from wind, solar, and hydro power. Additionally, the facility will benefit from the experience gained from OMV’s 10 MW electrolyser facility.
