Peru’s Ministry of Production has approved the detailed environmental impact study (EIA-d) for the Horizonte de Verano green hydrogen production plant project. The investment in the project exceeds $ 11.2 billion. This production plant will be developed in Arequipa and will focus on the production of green hydrogen to obtain ammonia.

Furthermore, this plant will consist of a water desalination plant and a solar photovoltaic plant. This green hydrogen project consolidates Peru’s position as a key player in the transition towards a sustainable economy.

Peru’s renewable energy sector has been rapidly expanding. Earlier in November 2024, ACCIONA announced plans to construct a 225 MW photovoltaic plant for Kallpa Generación in La Joya, Arequipa, Peru, covering 549 hectares. The plant will feature 371,040 bifacial solar panels with advanced technology, and the solar farm is expected to generate 611 GWh of electricity annually.
