AM Green and RWE ink green ammonia supply deal

RWE Supply & Trading has signed a MoU with AM Green Ammonia B.V. (AMG) for the long-term provision of 250,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually from AMG’s facilities in India. The ammonia will be produced at the Kakinada and Tuticorin sites, with an initial production of 50,000 tonnes at Kakinada and up to 200,000 tonnes sourced from Tuticorin.

Vena Energy to export 400 MW solar power from Indonesia to Singapore

Vena Energy is partnering with Shell Eastern Trading and received conditional approval from Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) to export 400 MW of solar power from Indonesia’s Riau Islands to Singapore. The EMA granted the conditional approval at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum in Jakarta. The project is expected to generate over 2.6 TWh of renewable energy annually

India launches 500 MW offshore wind tender

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has issued a tender for 500 MW offshore wind projects (tranche-I) in Gujarat, India. The project will be connected to the inter state transmission system (ISTS) and be developed on a build-own-operate basis. It will be developed in a 202 sq. km area in the Gulf of Khambhat, off the coast of Gujarat. The last date of bid submission is December 10, 2024.

TotalEnergies and Adani join forces for 1 GW solar power in India

TotalEnergies and Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) have agreed to form a new joint venture (JV) focused on solar deployment in India. The JV will develop a solar portfolio in Khavda, in the state of Gujarat, with a capacity of 1,150 MW (1,575 MWp). The partnership will be equally owned by both companies. TotalEnergies has provided an equity investment of $444 million for the venture, while AGEL is contributing assets to the JV.

India discovers $0.03 per unit solar tariffs in two auctions

The Indian renewable energy implementing agencies, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and SJVN Limited, have been successful in discovering low solar tariffs to the tune of $0.03 (Rs 2.52) per unit in their respective auctions this month. Both SECI and SJVN conducted auctions for the selection of developers to set up inter-state transmission system (ISTS) connected 1.2 GW of solar projects anywhere in India.

GSK inks 10 year energy deal with Sembcorp in Singapore

GSK has entered into a 10-year energy agreement with Sembcorp to meet the electricity needs of all three of its global manufacturing sites in Singapore. Starting from January 1, 2025, all of GSK’s manufacturing operations in Singapore will be powered by renewable energy certificates from Sembcorp’s solar projects and the 3 per cent already produced by GSK’s on-site solar panels.

China Three Gorges Renewables announces a 18 GW energy project in Inner Mongolia

China Three Gorges Renewables, a Chinese state-owned power company, is planning to develop a massive 18 GW energy project in Ordos, Inner Mongolia. This $11 billion project will comprise 8 GW solar PV project, 4 GW of wind, 4 GW of coal-fired power and 5 GWh of battery energy storage. 200 MW of solar thermal capacity is also planned as part of this project. Construction on the project is expected to begin in September 2024 and the project is planned to be ready for commissioning by 2027.

India notifies funding scheme for offshore wind projects

The Indian government has sanctioned the viability gap funding (VGF) scheme for offshore wind energy projects with a total budget of Rs 74.53 billion. This includes Rs 68.53 billion allocated for the installation and commissioning of 1,000 MW of offshore wind energy projects. This 1 GW encompasses 500 MW each off the coasts of the states of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Additionally, Rs 6 billion has been earmarked for the enhancement of two ports to fulfill logistics needs for offshore wind energy projects.

Canadian Solar’s first FIP PV projects in Japan

Canadian Solar’s first portfolio of feed-in premium (FIP) PV projects commenced commercial operation on June 1, 2024 in Japan. The portfolio includes a 1.2 MWp project in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and a 1.9 MWp project in Daisen Town, Tottori Prefecture. Toyota Tsusho Corporation will get 100 per cent of the PV power and NFCs by the project, through a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the company.

ORIX to build 134 MW Maibara-Koto energy storage plant in Japan

ORIX Corporation has announced plans to construct the Maibara-Koto energy storage plant, with a rated output of 134 MW and a capacity of 548 MWh. The plant will be situated in the city of Maibara, Shiga. The construction will commence in November 2024 and operations in 2027. Furthermore, ORIX secured the project through a competitive decarbonisation energy auction from the Organisation for Cross-regional Coordination of Transmission Operators, Japan (OCCTO).
