Iberdrola commissions 33 MW Mikronoros wind farm in Greece

Iberdrola, a Spanish energy company, has announced the start of operations at its 33.6 MW Mikronoros wind farm in Greece. The wind project, which is located in Rhodopes, Thrace, consists eight V150 4.2 MW wind turbines, each with a hub height of 105 metres and a rotor diameter of 150 metres. The wind power project will provide renewable power to over 34,000 homes.

Siemens Energy bids for remaining stake in Siemens Gamesa

Siemens Energy has launched a 4.05 billion euro bid for a minority stake in Siemens Gamesa. By doing this Siemens Energy hopes to resolve a complicated ownership structure that has weighed on its shares. The bid of 18.05 euros per share represents a 27.7 per cent premium over Siemens Gamesa’s last unaffected closing share price of 14.13 euros on May 17, 2022, and a 7.8 per cent premium over the closing price of May 20, 2022.

Iberdrola begins to develop Korytnica II wind farm in Poland

Iberdrola, a Spanish energy company, has started construction on the 50.5 MW Korytnica II wind farm in Poland. The plant, which is located north of Warsaw in the Mazowieckie region, would increase the company’s onshore wind power capacity in Poland to 163 MW. Iberdrola already operates the 30 MW Zopowy wind farm in the Opole region, as well as the 82.5 MW Korytnica I wind farm.

APG and OMERS Infrastructure to acquire Groendus

APG and OMERS Infrastructure, a Dutch pension investment company, have agreed to purchase energy transition platform Groendus from NPM Capital. Groendus develops, builds, and operates energy assets for companies, municipalities, and institutions, as well as provides a wide range of ancillary services. The company has installed about 170 MWp of solar power and over 12,000 electricity metres.

Vattenfall inaugurates a 353 MW onshore wind farm in Sweden

Vattenfall, Sweden’s state-owned power company, is set to open its Blakliden Fäbodberget onshore wind farm in the municipalities of Sele and Lycksele. Vattenfall owns a 30 per cent stake in the 353 MW wind farm, which is jointly owned by Vattenfall, Vestas, and AIP Management. The facility is equipped with 84 wind turbines and has the capacity to generate 1 tWh of clean energy, enough to power almost 220,000 homes in the area.

Octopus Energy and Xlinks partner to invest in Morocco-UK power link 

Octopus Energy Group, a UK-based renewable energy company, has announced a financial and strategic partnership with Xlinks, a company that is building an interconnector between Moroccan solar farms and the UK. Xlinks is laying four 3,800 km subsea cables for the Morocco-UK power project, which will connect a renewable energy facility in the Moroccan desert with Devon, UK.

Shell and Eneco to jointly work in Dutch offshore wind tenders

Shell and Eneco have agreed to work jointly on the offshore wind tender process for the Hollandse Kust (west) (HKW) VI and VII lots, which are located off the coast of the Netherlands.  The two companies will submit their bids through their two joint venture firms, Ecowende and SchakelWind. Ecowende will bid for HKW VI, while SchakelWind will submit an offer for HKW VII.

Lightsource bp plans to develop 1 GW of solar capacity in France

By 2026, Lightsource bp, a joint venture between Lightsource and bp, intends to develop 1 GW of solar power capacity in France.  To achieve this target, the company plans to build many large-scale ground-mount solar farms.  Under the agreement, Lightsource bp plans to engage in public tenders and provide companies with sustainable energy through power purchase agreements.

India and Italy partner for green hydrogen, biofuel and energy storage

India and Italy will develop partnerships in key renewable energy sectors such as green hydrogen, biofuels, and energy storage. The decision was taken in a meeting between the Minister of External Affairs, India and his Italian counterpart. Reportedly, the discussion also covered the implementation of the India-Italy Strategic Partnership on Energy Transition, which was announced in 2021.

Iberdrola begins construction of 476 MW offshore wind farm in Baltic Sea

The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) has granted Iberdrola, a Spanish electric utility company, approval to build Baltic Eagle, the Baltic Sea’s largest offshore wind farm. With a capacity of 476 MW, Baltic Eagle will be able to generate enough clean energy to power 475,000 homes while avoiding over 800,000t of carbon emissions each year. By the end of 2024, the wind farm should be operational.
