Sol Systems commences construction of $345 million solar project in US

Sol Systems has achieved financial close and commenced construction on a $345 million solar project with a capacity of 182 MW. This project is called the Tilden project. The project is expected to generate clean energy sufficient to power nearly 33,800 homes annually in Illinois. It is currently under construction on a mine site in Randolph County, Illinois. Furthermore, the financial close was made possible through collaboration with ING, Churchill Stateside Group, Qcells, Nextracker, and McCarthy Building Companies.

TPCL and NTPC form JV to develop solar project in Sri Lanka

Trincomalee Power Company Limited (TPCL) which is a joint venture (JV) between NTPC Limited and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is developing a 50 MW (extendable to 120 MW) solar project in Sampoor, Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. The company has finalised the tariff for the project at 5.97 US cents per unit. Furthermore, the finalised tariff structure will ensure long-term energy security while aligning with Sri Lanka’s renewable energy ambitions.

Sembcorp inaugurates 588 MW solar project in Oman

Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp) has inaugurated its Manah 2 Solar Independent Power Project in Manah, Oman. The project has an installed peak capacity of 588 MW. It is Sembcorp’s first greenfield renewables development in the Middle East. The project is backed by a 20-year 500 MW power purchase agreement with Nama Power and Water Procurement Company. Furthermore, when fully commissioned, the project is expected to produce 1.5 million MWh of clean energy annually.

Vikram Solar has secured 1,000 MW order to supply solar photovoltaic modules for renewable energy projects in Karnataka, Gujarat, and Rajasthan, India. EU 2040 Climate Target: Building Blocks and Measures

The European Climate Law (ECL) requires the EU to adopt a climate target for 2040. The European Commission recommends an EU climate target for 2040 of 90% reduction in net GHG emissions by 2040 (compared to 1990). Achieving emission reductions on this scale is indispensable if the EU is to stay on a realistic path towards climate neutrality by 2050 and net negative emissions thereafter. To achieve emission reductions on this scale, the EU must meet its 2030 climate target and scale up its current reduction efforts significantly. Policy interventions such as tax credits and feed-in-tariffs, have been shown to increase adoption of rooftop solar across the UK, EU and US. Masdar grows solar and wind portfolio in Europe 

Masdar has expanded its presence in Europe by completing two acquisitions in the Iberian Peninsula. The company along with its institutional partners has acquired Saeta Yield from Brookfield Renewable Partners for an enterprise value of €1.2 billion and an equity value of €696 million. Saeta’s portfolio includes 745 MW of wind assets out of which 538 MW are in Spain, 144 MW are in Portugal, and the rest 63 MW are solar PV assets located in Spain.
