Australia awards 7.8 GW of clean energy projects

Australia’s Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy has announced the results of Tender 7 under the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS). A total of 19 renewable energy projects were selected, delivering 7.8 GW, exceeding the original 5 GW target  of capacity. Of which 8 projects are hybrid systems combining wind or solar generation with battery storage.

Edify closes funding for Queensland solar and BESS projects

Edify Energy has achieved financial close for the Smoky Creek and Guthrie’s Gap Solar Power Stations located in Central Queensland, Australia. The projects will deliver 720 MWp of combined solar generation capacity along with 600 MW/2,400 MWh of battery energy storage system (BESS). Both projects have also secured long-term support under the Australian Government’s capacity investment scheme (CIS).

OX2 begins construction of 135 MWac solar farm and 100 MW BESS in Australia

OX2 has commenced construction of the Muswellbrook solar farm and battery project in New South Wales, Australia. The project features 135 MWac of solar capacity and 100 MW of battery energy storage system (BESS). The project has also secured a long-term hybrid power purchase agreement with an international offtaker covering both solar generation and battery storage. Construction for the project is expected to complete in 2028.

Renewables supplied a higher share of NEM generation, reaching new Q1 highs. Expanded battery capacity reshaped supply patterns across the day. WEM supply mix shifted further towards renewables, while battery storage reshaped intraday supply patterns while average WEM energy prices remained consistent year-on-year, with lower volatility, and essential system services costs declined for the west coast energy market.

Lightsource bp has announced the sale of its Australian solar portfolio to Aula Energy. The transaction covers five operational solar projects with a combined capacity of 1,037 MWdc. NHOA Energy launches 245 MW BESS in Australia

NHOA Energy, along with EnergyAustralia and Enerven, have announced the official launch of a 245 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Hallett, South Australia, following financial close and the project’s transition into the delivery phase. Australia awards contracts to 1.17 GW BESS projects

AEMO Services Limited (ASL), a subsidiary of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), has awarded long-term energy service agreements to six battery energy storage system (BESS) in New South Wales through Tender Round 6. All six projects are based on lithium-ion technology, with storage durations ranging from 8.7 hours to 11.5 hours. The projects together account for 1,170 MW of capacity and 11.98 GWh of storage.

Neoen inaugurates 412 MW wind farm in Australia

Neoen has inaugurated 412 MW Goyder South wind farm in South Australia. The project, located near Burra in South Australia’s Mid North region on the lands of the Ngadjuri Nation, was constructed in two stages with a total of 75 turbines. The wind farm supplies energy under three long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs). It is expected to produce approximately 1.5 TWh of electricity annually.

A total of 20 projects were selected with a cumulative capacity of 6.6 GW, exceeding the initial plan of 6 GW. Of these, 12 hybrid projects integrating wind or solar with battery storage contribute over 3,500 MW.

EDF issues AUD 1 billion Kangaroo bonds

EDF has successfully completed its first Kangaroo senior bond issuance in Australia, raising AUD 1 billion through two tranches. The issuance included AUD 500 million with a 10-year maturity carrying a 5.636 per cent fixed coupon, and another AUD 500 million with a 20-year maturity at a 6.627 per cent fixed coupon. The bonds are expected to be rated BBB by S&P, Baa1 by Moody’s, and BBB+ by Fitch.

Atmos Renewables acquires 316 MW Australian wind farm from Neoen

Atmos Renewables has acquired a majority stake in the 316 MW Hornsdale wind farm in South Australia from Neoen.The company previously held minority interests across the three stages of the project and will assume full ownership and control following the transaction. Reportedly, the settlement is expected in the latter half of 2025, subject to customary conditions precedent. The wind farm has been operational since 2017.

DP Energy to develop 1.4 GW wind project in Australia

DP Energy will be developing the Windy Plains Renewable Energy Park in Queensland. The project will combine around 197 wind turbines with an installed capacity of up to 1,400 MW. ARENA announces AUD 60 million funding for solar R&D

The funding reflects ARENA’s ambition for innovation in solar PV and will focus on six areas across two streams. Gamuda inks agreement to co-develop renewable energy projects in Australia

Gamuda Bhd (Gamuda) has inked an agreement with the Downie family to co-develop a portfolio of large-scale renewable energy projects in Central Tasmania, Australia. Under the agreement, Gamuda will take an unspecified equity stake in the portfolio. The portfolio has a combined capacity of 600 MW of wind and solar energy and up to 600 MW of battery storage. Reportedly, the project costs have not been disclosed.

EnergyAustralia has partnered with EDF power solutions Australia to co-develop and deliver the Lake Lyell Pumped Hydro Energy Storage project (LLPHES) in Lithgow. The LLPHES Project has the capability to produce 385 MW of reliable, dispatchable energy once it is developed. The energy produced will be sufficient to supply over 250,000 homes in New South Wales for up to eight hours.

METLEN secures financial close for solar portfolio in Australia 

Metlen Energy and Metals (METLEN) has reached financial close on a refinancing of all its operating and under-construction assets in Australia. Furthermore, the financial close was reached with lenders, namely Deutsche Bank, Intesa Sanpaolo (IMI CIB Division), and Westpac Banking Corporation. Once operational, the solar portfolio will produce renewable energy of almost 1 TWh annually.
