Stargate Hydrogen inaugurates electrolyser factory in Estonia

Stargate Hydrogen has inaugurated its new factory, which is dedicated to the production of alkaline electrolysis stacks and systems in Estonia. In the first phase, the factory can deliver 140 MW of alkaline electrolysers annually. This can be increased to over 1 GW with the help of minor additional investments. The project has been co-funded by the Republic of Estonia through the revenue from the emissions trading scheme.

TotalEnergies acquires pipeline of solar and battery projects in UK

TotalEnergies has acquired a pipeline of 8 solar projects with a capacity of 350 MW and 2 battery storage projects with a capacity of 85 MW from Low Carbon. The solar projects are in the advanced stage of development and are expected to be operational by 2028. Furthermore, the solar projects will produce over 350 GWh/year of renewable electricity. The renewable electricity produced is equivalent to the electricity consumption of around 1,00,000 UK households.

European EV Market Monitor: Paper

This market spotlight by the International Council on Clean Transportation highlights that the average share of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) among total new registrations in Europe increased 1 percentage point to 17% in April 2025, up from 16% in March. While several manufacturer pools had decreases in BEV shares of 1 or 2 percentage points in April compared with the previous month, including the BMW, Mercedes-Volvo-Polestar, Hyundai, TeslaStellantis-Toyota, and Renault pools, other pools increased their shares. The 19% BEV share of the Volkswagen pool was a notable jump of 7 percentage points over its 2024 average.

Norwegian Hydrogen secures funding from EU Hydrogen Bank and Innovation Norway

Norwegian Hydrogen has secured funding from the EU Hydrogen Bank and Innovation Norway for its green hydrogen project at Rjukan in Norway. The company has won the EU Hydrogen Bank auction for the green hydrogen project. It will receive up to  €13.2 million from the EU for the project. Furthermore, the green hydrogen project will also receive NOK 50 million in grants and a green growth loan of NOK 50 million from Innovation Norway.

European Commission awards funding to 15 renewable hydrogen projects in Europe

The European Commission has selected 15 renewable hydrogen production projects across the European Economic Area which will be awarded public funding. The projects are expected to generate approximately 2.2 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen over ten years. These projects are spread across five countries in Europe. The hydrogen will be produced in sectors such as transportation, the chemical industry and production of methanol and ammonia.

Kona Energy secures contract for 228 MW BESS project in Scotland

Kona Energy has secured a capacity market contract approximately worth €40 million for the Smeaton project. This is a 228 MW/456 MWh battery energy storage system project (BESS) situated in East Lothian, Scotland. This was achieved after securing planning consent for the site. Furthermore, capacity market agreement was secured in the T-4 auction which is a government-backed mechanism ensuring electricity supply during peak demand.

H2APEX acquires HH2E’s green hydrogen project in Germany 

H2APEX has acquired the green hydrogen project of HH2E situated at the Lubmin site in Germany. H2APEX aims to complete the green hydrogen production facility, which was initially planned by HH2E.  Furthermore, with this project, H2APEX has also acquired the land, infrastructure, existing electricity and water supply connections. The Lubmin site provides access to multiple pipelines, which are scheduled to be converted to hydrogen operation by 2027.

Norges Bank acquires 49 per cent stake in offshore wind projects in Denmark and Germany

Norges Bank Investment Management (Norges Bank) has acquired a 49 per cent ownership interest in two offshore wind construction projects. These projects are located in Denmark and Germany. The completion of this agreement is expected by the start of the third quarter of 2025. Norges Bank will pay approximately €1,400 million for this ownership interest. The total value of the projects is approximately €2,870 million.

Velto Renewables and Q ENERGY join forces for renewable energy projects in Europe

Velto Renewables (Velto) has inked a partnership agreement with Q Energy to acquire a portfolio of large-scale renewable energy projects across Europe. Under this agreement, Velto has acquired a portfolio of solar and wind projects situated in France with a combined capacity of approximately 130 MW. Additionally, the two companies also expect to finalise the transaction of approximately 400 MW in Spain and Portugal in the coming weeks.

Salzgitter AG lays cornerstone for 100 MW green hydrogen plant in Germany

Salzgitter AG has laid the cornerstone for a 100 MW electrolysis plant for green hydrogen in Europe. The plant will generate approximately  9,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually for the production of carbon-reduced steel from 2026. This also marks the beginning of the industrial use of hydrogen in SALCOS which stands for Salzgitter Low Carbon Steelmaking. This is a programme by Salzgitter aiming for virtually carbon-free steel production. Furthermore, this electrolysis plant will be built on an engineering, procurement, and construction basis by ANDRITZ.

Accelera to supply 100 MW electrolyser system for bp’s green hydrogen project in Germany

Accelera will be supplying a 100 MW proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser system for bp’s Lingen green hydrogen project in Germany. This project will utilise Accelera’s advanced HyLYZER® PEM electrolyzer technology. The hydrogen generation system that will power bp’s Lingen project will consist of 20 PEM HyLYZER®-1000 electrolyser units.Furthermore, the system is being manufactured at Accelera’s new electrolyser plant in Guadalajara, Spain.

bp and Iberdrola begin construction of 25 MW green hydrogen plant in Spain

The joint venture (JV) between bp and Iberdrola España has commenced construction of a 25 MW green hydrogen plant in Spain. The initial phase for this plant consists of earthworks and the development of an approximately 20,000 meter square plot of land next to the bp refinery in Castellón. Civil work for the project will commence in the second quarter of 2025. The plant is expected to be operational in the second half of 2026.

Matrix Renewables secures €40 million financing for six solar plants in Italy 

Matrix Renewables has closed a €40 million non-recourse financing from UniCredit. This financing will support the development and construction of six solar photovoltaic (PV) plants across Sicily, Campania, and Lombardia. The projects have a total capacity of 40 MW and construction for these projects commenced in September 2024. Operations are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025. Additionally, these projects are also expected to generate full-time jobs during the construction phase.

ACWA Power has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SEFE. The partnership aims to produce and deliver green hydrogen to Europe and strengthen energy cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Germany. Repsol to invest over €800 million in Ecoplant project in Spain

Repsol has invested in the Ecoplant which is a European project aimed at converting urban waste into renewable fuels and circular products. The project is located in Tarragona and is expected to receive an investment exceeding €800 million. This initiative will reduce carbon emissions in the transport sector while promoting the circular economy. It will produce renewable and circular methanol from waste using gasification. Enerkem will repurpose waste that would otherwise be sent to landfills or incinerated.

Masdar grows solar and wind portfolio in Europe 

Masdar has expanded its presence in Europe by completing two acquisitions in the Iberian Peninsula. The company along with its institutional partners has acquired Saeta Yield from Brookfield Renewable Partners for an enterprise value of €1.2 billion and an equity value of €696 million. Saeta’s portfolio includes 745 MW of wind assets out of which 538 MW are in Spain, 144 MW are in Portugal, and the rest 63 MW are solar PV assets located in Spain.
