EIB approves €2 billion for clean energy initiatives in Europe

Masdar and EPCG form renewable energy JV in Montenegro

Masdar and Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) have formed a 50/50 joint venture (JV) in Montenegro. Qualitas Energy bags 126 MW in German onshore wind auction 

Qualitas Energy has secured 126 MW across three wind projects in February 2026 onshore wind auctions conducted by the German Federal Network Agency. The projects, located in Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Baden-Württemberg, involve the development of 18 turbines. The projects will power around 84,000 households once they commence operations.

NEL Hydrogen secures $7 million PEM electrolyser order 

Nel Hydrogen US has received a $7 million purchase order from Mesure Process to supply containerised PEM electrolyser equipment for European hydrogen projects. The units will produce 100 per cent renewable hydrogen to support both high-demand hydrogen refueling stations for mobility and industrial export applications. The project, managed by Synqo Energies as the EPC supplier, is expected to commence operation in 2027.

clearvise AG signs wind and solar PPAs in Germany and Ireland

clearvise AG has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) for five wind and solar projects across Germany and Ireland. The agreements cover four German solar parks: Klettwitz Nord (90 MW), Alsweiler (10 MW), Lohne (8.6 MW), Triticum (16.8 MW) and the 35 MW Glenough wind farm in Ireland. The PPAs are of 9-12 months and are expected to generate over €0.7 million in additional earnings compared to previous budget projections.

Qualitas Energy acquires 376 MW solar portfolio in Poland

Qualitas Energy has acquired a portfolio of nine operational solar plants in Poland with a total capacity of 376 MWp. The portfolio generates over 400 GWh annually, supplying electricity to approximately 210,000 households. The assets were purchased from a joint venture between Better Energy Holding A/S and Industriens Pension. The projects were developed and built by Better Energy and became operational between 2021 and 2024.

ENGIE acquires 278 MW BESS projects in Spain

ENGIE has acquired two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Andalusia totaling 278 MW/1.1 GWh. These facilities located in Álora (78 MW/312 MWh) and Tarifa (200 MW/800 MWh) provide four hours of storage and utilise synchronous condensers to stabilise the grid through inertia and reactive power management. Construction on the projects is scheduled to commence in 2027, with the projects expected to be commissioned in 2028.

PPC Group completes 2.13 GW solar projects in Greece

PPC Group has completed construction of solar plants having a combined capacity of 2.13 GW in Amyntaio and Ptolemaida in Northern Greece. These plants can generate 3150 GWh of electricity annually, which corresponds to 6 per cent of the country’s annual electricity consumption, catering to approximately 750,000 households. Additionally, the plants will avoid more than 1.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Zelestra and EDP ink agreement to hybridise solar plant in Spain 

Zelestra and EDP have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to hybridise an operational solar plant with battery storage. As per the agreement, Zelestra will add a 160 MWh BESS to the 50 MW Pizarroso solar plant in Cáceres. The solar plant has been operational since 2023. EDP, the current offtaker for the solar plant, will use the battery storage to improve energy management and enhance system flexibility.

 EC approves €6 billion Italian aid scheme for renewable hydrogen 

The European Commission (EC) has approved a €6 billion Italian scheme to support renewable hydrogen production for transport and industry. The hydrogen can be produced both from renewable electricity through electrolysis and from biogenic sources through biological, bio-thermochemical or thermochemical processes. The aid will be provided through two-way contracts for difference.

Etem Gestamp and Rezolv Energy ink cross-border VPPA in Bulgaria

Etem Gestamp and Rezolv Energy have entered into a 10-year cross border virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) in Bulgaria. Under this arrangement, Etem Gestamp will procure electricity from Rezolv Energy’s 461 MW VIFOR wind farm, located in Buzău County, Romania, which is nearing commissioning. The agreement represents Rezolv Energy’s seventh PPA across Romania and Bulgaria.

McDonald’s and Axpo sign solar PPA in Spain

Axpo and McDonald’s have entered into a ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the supply of up to 83 GWh of solar energy annually. The electricity will be sourced from Axpo’s newly developed solar complex located in the municipalities of Villadangos del Páramo and Cimanes del Tejar, in the northwestern province of León. It is a 200 MWp facility consisting of four photovoltaic plants, each with a capacity of 50 MWp.

WBS Power to develop 3.2 GW renewable-powered data centre in Poland

WBS Power S.A. is developing a hyperscale data centre campus with a planned capacity of 3.2 GW in Lublewo, located in the Choczewo municipality in Poland’s Pomerania region. The project, named Baltic Data Center Campus, has secured grid connection conditions for the entire capacity. The campus is planned to be executed in four phases, each with a capacity of 800 MW.

Zelestra commissions Belinchón solar cluster in Spain

Zelestra has commissioned three solar plants, Belinchón I, II and III, in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, with a combined capacity of 162 MW. The projects are located in Cuenca and were completed within 14 months by the company’s EPC team. Additionally, the operational plants are expected to avoid more than 42,700 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. A total of 275,000 solar modules have been installed across the three plants.
