Iberdrola to commission 195 MW wind farm in Portugal

Iberdrola has commissioned the 195 MW Tâmega Norte wind farm in Portugal. Located between Braga and Vila Real, in the municipalities of Cabeceiras de Basto and Montalegre, theTâmega Norte wind farm is an onshore wind project consisting of 27 Vestas wind turbines, each with a capacity of 7.2 MW and a rotor height of 172 metres. Furthermore, the project is the first of two wind farms that form part of the grid-connected wind-hydro hybrid project, Tâmega Complex.

Germany awards 2.2 GW of solar capacity

The Federal Network Agency of Germany has announced the results of its March 1, 2026 solar PV auction which was oversubscribed. The tender covered 2,295 MW of ground-mounted and special-structure solar projects. A total of 532 bids of 4,622 MW capacity were submitted, while 268 bids totaling 2,299 MW secured awards. Additionally, 39 bids were excluded from the auction process.

Rezolv Energy has commissioned the 225 MW St. George solar park in Silistra, Bulgaria. The project represents an investment of $300 million. The project incorporates 400,000 solar panels along with a 90 MW/240 MWh battery energy storage system supported by the EU’s Next GenerationEU programme. Furthermore, the project is expected to generate around 313 GWh of electricity annually for at least 30 years.

MorGen Energy secures EU grant for green hydrogen project in Denmark

MorGen Energy, a subsidiary of Trafigura, has secured a conditional grant of up to €422.75 million under the European Hydrogen Bank auction funded by the EU Innovation Fund. The grant supports the future operations of the Njordkraft green hydrogen project which is located in Esbjerg, Denmark. The project is expected to produce around 45,500 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually for sectors including steel, refining and energy-intensive manufacturing.

Elements Green acquires 300 MW BESS project in Scotland

Elements Green has acquired the Newarthill battery energy storage system (BESS) project located near Motherwell in Scotland. The project, acquired from Geocore, has a 300 MW storage capacity with a planned two-hour duration and the potential to expand to four hours duration. The project received planning approval in February 2025. The project will connect through an adjacent 275kV substation, with a grid offer secured from NESO under the ongoing grid reform process.

Construction for the project is scheduled to commence from May 21, 2026, while commercial operations are targeted for September 2027.

The agreement will cover the full scope of optimisation services for the project from the start of commercial operations through the end of 2038. The agreement will commence from the start of commercial operations and remain in effect through the end of 2038.

BNZ secures contracts to supply 1,600 GWh of renewable energy in Italy

BNZ has signed agreements to supply 1,600 GWh of renewable energy to major steel and iron companies in Italy. The clean power supplied under the agreement will be equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of around 600,000 homes and is also expected to offset 528,000 tonnes of carbon emissions. The agreements were signed under Italy’s “Energy Release 2.0” scheme managed by Gestore dei Servizi Energetici.

RWE to supply 70 GWh clean energy to Breedon in Great Britain

RWE has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Breedon Group in Great Britain. Under the agreement, RWE will provide around 70 GWh of renewable power annually to Breedon’s operations. The power will initially be supplied from the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm located in the Irish Sea. From 2033 onwards, the power will be supplied from the Brechfa Forest West Wind Farm located in Wales.

Hydro Energi AS and Statkraft have signed long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) for 0.9 TWh of annual electricity generation from 2029-30 and 1.3 TWh annually from 2031-38. The agreements secure a total of 12.3 TWh over 10 years for Hydro Energi’s aluminium plants in Norway. Of this, 8.8 TWh will be supplied in NO2 and 3.5 TWh in NO3 price areas.
