UK offshore wind project gets EIFO funding guarantee

The Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO) has provided a £500 million project finance guarantee for the East Anglia Three offshore wind farm in UK. The project, developed by ScottishPower Renewables, is valued at £4.5 billion. Located off the Suffolk coast, East Anglia Three is an expansion of the East Anglia wind cluster and is scheduled to become operational by the end of 2026.

Sermatec bags 430 MWh storage project in Bulgaria

Sermatec has secured a 430 MWh energy storage project in Bulgaria. Sermatec will deliver a full-lifecycle energy storage solution, with the system designed to charge during off-peak hours using low-cost electricity and discharge during peak hours, benefiting from time-of-use pricing.  The project is expected to be delivered by December 2026. Grid connection and operation are expected by March 2026.

VSB Group wins contract for 303 MWp solar park in Poland

VSB Group has secured a contract for difference (CfD) for a 303 MWp solar park as part of this year’s renewable energy auction organised by the Polish Energy Regulatory Office (URE). Located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, the project is expected to commence construction in October 2025. The project is expected to be connected to the grid in the second quarter of 2027. Furthermore, the project benefits from a 15 year contract for difference.

Dutch Government awards subsidy to eleven green hydrogen projects

Eleven winners have been selected in the recent green hydrogen auction conducted by the Dutch government to give subsidies for electrolysers. These subsidies are expected to reduce the price gap between grey and green hydrogen. The winning bidders, with a combined capacity of 602 MW, have to complete their projects by 2030. A total of nearly Euro 1 billion in subsidies was available for this second round of green hydrogen subsidies.

ACWA Power to export renewable energy and green hydrogen to Europe

ACWA Power has inked agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with international partners. The agreements aim to create a green hydrogen and renewable energy export value chain between Saudi Arabia and Europe. A multi-party MoU was signed by ACWA Power with several European companies. The companies included Italy’s Edison S.p.A. and Zhero Europe B.V., France’s TotalEnergies Renewables SAS, and Germany’s  EnBW.

Crown Estate to invest €400 million in UK’s offshore wind supply chain 

The Crown Estate has outlined a proposal to invest up to €400 million of capital in the supply chain to boost the UK’s offshore wind sector. The investment will support the construction of new infrastructure, including ports, supply chain manufacturing, research and testing facilities, to enable the deployment of offshore wind across UK. The capital will be made available through two targeted programmes, which are now live.

ib vogt inaugurates 513.1 MWp solar projects in Spain

ib vogt has inaugurated the Segovia Cluster situated in the Segovia region of Spain. The Segovia Cluster consists of four utility-scale photovoltaic plants with a total capacity of 513.1 MWp. The plants are the Serbal solar plant with a capacity of 174 MWp, the Castaño solar plant with a capacity of 134 MWp, the Pato solar plant with a capacity of 110 MWp, and the Baobab solar plant with a capacity of 95.1 MWp.

Sonnedix inks 420 GWh PPA with Renfe in Spain

Sonnedix has inked a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Renfe for the purchase of 420 GWh of renewable energy per year to power its commercial operations. The solar installations used in this financial PPA will generate annual energy, which will be enough to power 112,000 homes. The PPA will meet a substantial amount of  Renfe’s total predicted energy needs. The PPA was inked following the inauguration of Sonnedix’s 150 MW Covatillas 1, 5, and 6 portfolio.

METLEN gets new solar and storage EPC contracts in UK

Metlen Energy & Metals (METLEN) has inked new engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts for renewable energy projects in UK with a combined capacity of 313.4 MW. The contracts are for five solar parks and one battery energy storage system (BESS). Construction on the projects is set to commence at various stages throughout 2025, and all units are expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

European Commission awards funding to 15 renewable hydrogen projects in Europe

The European Commission has selected 15 renewable hydrogen production projects across the European Economic Area which will be awarded public funding. The projects are expected to generate approximately 2.2 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen over ten years. These projects are spread across five countries in Europe. The hydrogen will be produced in sectors such as transportation, the chemical industry and production of methanol and ammonia.

Macquarie acquires additional ownership in Island Green Power

Macquarie Asset Management, through its managed funds, has acquired an additional 50 per cent stake in Island Green Power. This brings its total ownership in the business to 100 per cent. As per the transaction, the founders will retain full ownership of the company’s international operations, while the UK entity will shift its strategy from being a pure-play developer to an independent power producer (IPP), with a focus on building and operating renewable energy assets.

Locus Energy acquires a hydropower portfolio in Norway

Locus Energy, a portfolio company of SEB Nordic Energy, has acquired a hydropower portfolio with an annual generation capacity of 158 GWh, spanning across the Norwegian price zones NO2 to NO5. The acquired portfolio comprises both operational plants and projects currently under construction.  Once fully commissioned, the assets will bring Locus Energy’s total annual hydropower output to around 410 GWh.

Ameresco SUNEL secures three solar EPC contracts in Romania

Ameresco SUNEL Energy SA, a joint venture between Ameresco and SUNEL Group, has secured €303.4 million engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts for three solar projects. These projects have a combined capacity of 466 MWp and are situated in the southwestern region of Romania. The projects will replace coal-fired power generation and strengthen Romania’s commitment to phasing out coal by 2032.

UK Government shortlists new hydrogen projects

The UK government has shortlisted 27 hydrogen-powered projects in its second hydrogen allocation round (HAR2). These projects are expected to support low-carbon hydrogen production in the UK. The hydrogen industry has the potential to attract over €1 billion of private sector investment into the UK by 2029. Furthermore, the sector has already attracted €400 million of private sector investment in towns and cities.

Autoliv inks VPPAs with Alight and Eurowind Energy

Autoliv has inked virtual power purchase agreements (VPPA) with Alight and Eurowind Energy. The VPPA with Alight will enable the construction of a 100 MWp solar park in Eurajoki, Finland. This project will be operational in 2026 and produce 100 GWh annually. Furthermore, the VPPA with Eurowind Energy will provide clean electricity from the 48 MW Pecineaga wind park in Romania. This park will generate approximately 176 GWh annually.

UK Government awards development consent to Rampion 2 Wind Farm 

The UK Government has awarded the development consent order to the Rampion 2 offshore wind farm. The project is situated off the Sussex coast. This approval is part of the UK government’s Plan for Change. It will secure 1.2 GW of clean, homegrown power for British families and businesses. Project development is being led by RWE. Furthermore, the wind farm is expected to be operational by the end of this decade.

Gilkes secures planning consent for 1.8 GW pumped storage project

Gilkes Energy’s Earba Storage Project has secured planning consent from the Energy Consents Unit of the Scottish Government in UK. This is a proposed pumped storage hydro (PSH) scheme with an installed capacity of 1,800 MW and a storage capacity of 40,000 MWh. The project provides 22 hours of storage at full power. Furthermore, the Earba Storage Project supports decarbonisation, strengthens energy security, and lowers costs for consumers.

Masdar acquires Valle Solar project in Spain

Masdar, through its subsidiary Saeta, has concluded an investment agreement for the Valle Solar project, which is situated in Spain’s Valencia region. The agreement is a further step in securing the construction of the plant, which is located in the municipalities of Ayora, Jarafuel, and Zarra. The solar project consists of a 234 MW photovoltaic plant, with the potential to add the hybridisation of battery energy storage systems of 259 MW.
