CIP partners with GCSS for 2.3 GW BESS projects in Italy

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has entered into a partnership with GC Storage Services (GCSS) for a 2.3 GW pipeline of large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Italy. This partnership was formed using CIP’s flagship fund CI V.  Furthermore, these projects are located across Northern and Southern Italy, with the first project anticipated to be ready-to-build in 2025.The supportive regulatory policies of Italy allow CIP to deliver such projects in the country.

ANDRITZ wins order for 100 MW green hydrogen plant in Germany

ANDRITZ has secured an order to engineer a 100 MW green hydrogen plant in Rostock, Germany. The order was given by Rostock EnergyPort Cooperation GmbH (REPCO). REPCO is a joint venture of RWE Generation SE, EnBW Neue Energien GmbH, RheinEnergie AG, and Rostock Port GmbH. Once the notice to proceed is received, ANDRITZ will deliver the green hydrogen plant on an EPC basis

CIP acquires 480 MW Morecambe offshore wind project in UK

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) through its fund  Copenhagen Infrastructure V (CI V) has inked a transaction to fully acquire Morecambe fixed bottom offshore wind project. Morecambe has a capacity of 480 MW and was earlier owned by COBRA Group and Flotation Energy. The project is situated on the west coast of England. Furthermore, Flotation Energy will continue to serve as the development partner for the project. The project will become a part of CIP’s CI V Flagship Fund which has a target fund size of €12 billion.

UK launches investment scheme for offshore wind manufacturing

The UK government has launched a new investment scheme to boost clean energy manufacturing in the country. The scheme is called Clean Industry Bonus (CIB) and will offer financial support to offshore wind developers that prioritise investment in the most needed areas. The initiative will incentivise developers who construct more sustainable and low-carbon factories. It will also support the production of offshore wind blades, cables, and ports to reduce industrial emissions across the clean energy supply chain.

Statera acquires 680 MW BESS project in England

Statera Energy has acquired a 680 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project at Trafford Low Carbon Energy Park in Greater Manchester. The project is known as Carrington Storage and is expected to be fully energised in 2026. The project will be over twice the size of Statera’s upcoming 300 MW Thurrock Storage project. Furthermore, Carrington Storage will account for nearly a quarter of the installed energy capacity of the UK’s operational BESS fleet.

CIP and Alcemi announce FID for BESS project in Scotland

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has reached a final investment decision (FID) for two energy storage projects in Scotland. This investment decision is being made through CIP’s flagship fund, CI IV. These projects have a capacity of 500 MW / 1,000 MWh each. The projects are being developed as part of Alcemi’s partnership with CIP to deploy 4GW of energy storage projects across the UK at strategic locations.

TRIG inks PPA with France-based green hydrogen producer

The Renewables Infrastructure Group (TRIG) has inked a power purchase agreement (PPA) for renewable power supply to Hyd’Occ, which is a green hydrogen facility located in Port-la Nouvelle. As part of this agreement, TRIG will supply wind power to Hyd’Occ from its onshore wind farms located in the Occitanie region. Furthermore, the green hydrogen production unit is currently under construction and is expected to be commissioned in 2025.

Vestas secures 1.1 GW offshore wind order in Scotland

Vestas has received an order for the 1.1 GW Inch Cape Offshore Wind project in Scotland. The order has been secured from Inch Cape Offshore Limited, a joint venture that is equally owned by ESB and Red Rock Renewables. The agreement covers the supply, installation, and commissioning of 72 V236-15.0 MW wind turbines. Upon completion of the project, Vestas will provide a 10-year service agreement.

Estonia to launch offshore wind auction 

The Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority (CPTRA) of the Republic of Estonia has announced an electronic auction for the development of an offshore wind farm in the Saare 1 area, which spans 88 square kms and is located 60 km west of Saaremaa island in the Baltic Sea. The auction will take place between January 21 and January 23, 2025.

Stegra inks 6 TWh power agreement with Uniper 

Stegra and Uniper have entered into a long term power purchase agreement (PPA). Under the agreement, Uniper will supply 6 TWh of electricity to Stegra’s Northern Sweden facility annually from 2027 to 2032. Stegra’s Boden plant will produce green hydrogen, green iron, and green steel at scale, with an initial annual output of 2.5 million tonnes of green steel.

Amazon invests in three wind farms in Greece

Amazon has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Aer Soléir to develop three utility-scale wind farms: Vermio North, Vermio South, and the Mesokorfi and Koukouras projects in the Peloponnese region. The €496 million project, financed by the National Bank of Greece and the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility, also aims to provide local economic benefits through job creation, community investments, and biodiversity programs.

Fidra and Sungrow partner for 4.4 GWh BESS projects

Fidra Energy and Sungrow have signed a strategic partnership agreement to supply 4.4 GWh of energy storage systems for Fidra’s 10 GW battery storage system (BESS) across  UK and Europe by 2030. Under the agreement, Sungrow will provide its PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled energy storage systems (ESS) for Fidra’s Thorpe Marsh and West Burton C sites in the UK.

Masdar and Korporata Elektroenergjitike Shqiptare (KESH) have inked a term sheet agreement to explore GW-scale renewable energy projects in Albania. The agreement aims to focus on the development, construction, and operation of solar, wind, and hybrid renewable energy projects along with the potential incorporation of battery storage. The energy produced through the planned projects will be supplied to the Albanian market and also exported to the neighboring countries.

Statkraft submits application for 2.1 GW Baltic offshore wind project

Statkraft has submitted a planning application for the 2.1 GW Baltic Offshore Delta North wind farm, situated in the Baltic Sea, within Sweden’s economic zone, about 100 kilometres east of Stockholm. This bottom-fixed wind farm is expected to generate approximately 8 TWh of electricity annually, potentially supplying 40 per cent of the electricity consumption in Stockholm County.

Essar Hydrogen secures UK government support for HyNet Project

Essar Energy Transition (EET) Hydrogen is developing UK’s first large-scale, low-carbon hydrogen production hub at its Stanlow site. This hub will generate a total of 1,350 MW of hydrogen capacity, capturing approximately 2.5 million tonnes of carbon annually. The hydrogen hub will be developed in two stages, with the first plant (HPP1) providing 350 MW and the second (HPP2) contributing 1000 MW, aiming for a total capacity of over 4,000 MW by 2030

Lightsource bp announces 500 MWp solar pipeline in Germany

Lightsource bp plans to develop a pipeline of over 500 MWp in Germany within the next two to three years, targeting projects with a minimum size of 20 MW. To expedite their growth in the German market for utility-scale solar projects, they have entered into a development agreement with Kajoni Energie GmbH. Once construction begins, Lightsource bp will take full ownership of the projects.
