Moldova launches its first onshore wind and solar tender

The Republic of Moldova has launched its first tender for the construction of onshore wind power plants with a capacity of up to 105 MW and photovoltaic power plants with a maximum capacity of 60 MW. The plants will be developed by investors who, upon winning the tender, will gain the status of large eligible producers and receive guarantees for the purchase of the generated energy for 15 years. Interested investors must submit their bids by March 31, 2025, at 23:59 (EET).

The Uzbekistan government plans to start exporting surplus electricity to Europe by 2030, depending on the successful completion of a trilateral transmission project with Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. The latter project involves constructing a deep-water transmission cable across the Caspian Sea to transmit electricity through Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and across the Black Sea to Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria.

RWE wins 4 GW of capacity in the German offshore wind auction

The German Federal Network Agency announced that RWE has secured the N-9.1 and N-9.2 sites in the North Sea as part of the latest offshore wind auction. These sites, located about 110 – 115 km northwest of the island of Borkum, near the Dutch Exclusive Economic Zone, are each capable of hosting offshore wind farms with a total capacity of 2,000 megawatts. RWE’s winning bid for these sites amounts to €250 million.

KGAL ESPF 5 and IMCS join forces to develop BESS in Italy

KGAL ESPF 5, a renewable energy fund has established a joint venture (JV) with IMCS to collaborate on developing battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Italy. There is growing political backing for the developing energy storage system market, as BESS can help offset the rising variability in renewable energy electricity generation. The plan is to develop four battery energy storage systems, with a total capacity of 1,100 MW. The JV offers the opportunity to build the BESS projects at an early stage and sell them when they are at ready-to-build status.

Plenitude and Ferriera Valsabbia ink 10-year renewable energy deal

Plenitude has announced the signing of a 10-year corporate power purchase agreement with Ferriera Valsabbia for the supply of energy produced 100 per cent from renewable sources. The agreement covers the full output of a 15 MW wind farm owned by Plenitude, located in Sannicandro di Bari, Apulia, Italy. The energy produced from the plant is expected to total more than 350 GWh over the entire period and is anticipated to contribute to meeting the energy needs of Ferriera Valsabbia’s facilities starting in September 2024.

This will be enough to power over 7 per cent of Sweden’s current electricity consumption.

Sungrow gets 230 MWh BESS order from Nofar Energy

Sungrow has signed supply and service agreements for a new BESS project with Nofar Energy. The project will be developed in Stendal, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany and will feature the PowerTitan2.0, which is a liquid-cooled energy storage system. The project will have a capacity of 116,5MW/230MWh. The system will integrate a 2.5 MW power conversion system and 5 MWh battery into a single 20-ft container.
