EC approves German State aid scheme for Canadian hydrogen imports

The European Commission (EC) has approved a German state aid scheme worth €200 million to support the production of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives in Canada for supply to Germany and the wider European Union. The scheme targets renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) derived from renewable electricity and carbon. These fuels will be imported into Germany and sold across the European Union.

Tokyo Century, Downing form JV to develop solar projects in UK 

Tokyo Century Corporation has established a joint venture (JV) company with Downing LLP to invest in and develop solar projects in the United Kingdom. The JV will cover the full project lifecycle, including construction, ownership, and operations. The JV aims to develop a solar portfolio with a cumulative capacity of around 500 MW across approximately 10 sites by 2028.

EDP’s onshore hydro-solar project in Portugal begins operations 

EDP has brought into operation a hybrid renewable energy project in central Portugal that combines onshore solar generation with hydropower. This 89 MW project, called the Pracana complex, is located across the municipalities of Mação and Proença-a-Nova, in the districts of Santarém and Castelo Branco. The project integrates a 48 MW solar plant with the existing 41 MW Pracana hydropower facility on the Ocreza river.

Grenergy bags BESS contracts in Poland

Grenergy has secured capacity contracts for five standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Poland through the latest auction conducted by Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE), the national electricity system operator. The awarded projects have a combined power capacity of 534 MW, translating into 2.1 GWh of storage, and will function as reserve capacity when minimum system availability cannot be ensured.

H2APEX and East Energy form JV for green hydrogen projects

H2APEX Nova Holding GmbH, a subsidiary of H2APEX Group SCA, and the East Energy Group have established a joint venture (JV) named Hanseatic H2 to develop decentralised green hydrogen projects in Germany. The partnership plans to build four standardised electrolysis plants, each with a capacity of 5 MW, at locations across Northern and Eastern Germany. The projects will produce RFNBO-compliant hydrogen.

Blue Elephant Energy acquires 381 MW wind portfolio in Germany

Blue Elephant Energy has acquired an onshore wind energy portfolio with a total nominal capacity of 381 MW in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The portfolio, purchased from WIND-projekt, includes 37 operational wind farms with a cumulative installed capacity of 260 MW. Additionally, it includes four under construction wind farms totalling 46 MW, and three more wind farms totalling 75 MW will be transferred at the start of construction.

ContourGlobal commissions 202 MW BESS project in Bulgaria

ContourGlobal has commissioned a 202 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Stara Zagora region of Bulgaria. The facility is fully operational and is participating in the country’s day-ahead and intraday electricity markets. Located on a 25,000 square metre site within the Maritsa East 3 coal-fired power plant complex, the project is funded through the European Union’s NextGeneration EU programme.

Moeve and Pretium Renovables to develop biomethane plants in Spain

Moeve and Pretium Renovables have entered into an agreement to develop between four and six biomethane plants in Spain. Each plant is planned with an estimated annual production capacity of 60 GWh. The projects are expected to be rolled out across multiple regions, with Andalusia identified as the priority area for initial development. Each biomethane plant is projected to offset 14,600 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Nordex bags 224 MW wind turbine supply order in Germany

The Nordex Group has received wind turbine supply orders totaling 224.4 MW from UKA (Umweltgerechte Kraftanlagen GmbH & Co. KG) for wind projects located in Germany. The orders were placed under an existing framework agreement between Nordex Group and UKA and cover the supply of 33 N175/6.X wind turbines. The contracts also include a premium service arrangement for the maintenance of the turbines for a period of 20 years.

Spain allocates €818 million funding to energy storage projects 

Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) has approved funding for 126 large-scale energy storage projects. The allocation totals €818.3 million and is co-financed through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for the 2021-2027 period. The selected projects are expected to add 2.2 GW of power capacity and 9.4 GWh of storage capacity across the country.

EDPR sells 190 MWac Spanish solar portfolio to Prosolia Energy

EDP Renováveis, S.A. (EDPR) has completed an asset rotation transaction involving the sale of a 100 per cent equity stake in a 190 MWac, or 229 MWdc solar portfolio in Spain.   The solar portfolio was sold to Prosolia Energy for an estimated enterprise value of about €0.16 billion. It comprises five operational solar power plants located across the regions of Andalucía and Castilla y León.

ACCIONA Energía’s biomass plant begins clean energy supply to Spanish grid

ACCIONA Energía has started supplying renewable electricity to the grid from its Logrosan biomass power plant located in Cáceres, Spain. The plant has an installed capacity of 50 MW and is expected to generate around 380 GWh of electricity annually. The plant was awarded under the third renewable energy economic regime auction conducted by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge.

European Energy connects Glejbjerg solar park to the Danish grid

European Energy has completed grid connection of the Glejbjerg solar park in Denmark, bringing 148.2 MW of utility-scale solar capacity into full operation. The project reached commercial operation at the end of 2025 after final technical checks were concluded. Construction of the solar park was completed over a period of about one year. The Glejbjerg solar park consists of 238,368 solar modules.

European Energy takes FID on 225 MW agri-PV project in Italy

European Energy has taken the final investment decision (FID) on a 225 MW agri-PV project near Vizzini in Sicily, after securing support under Italy’s FER-X Contract for Difference auction. The project received its authorisation in 2023 and has now progressed following the successful auction outcome, which provides long-term revenue certainty. The project is scheduled to reach commercial operation by the end of 2027.

OMV Petrom, CE Oltenia start construction of 550 MW solar parks in Romania

OMV Petrom and Complexul Energetic Oltenia (CE Oltenia) have commenced construction on their solar parks in Romania, which have a cumulative installed capacity of around 550 MW. TThe development comprises four solar parks that are located in Ișalnița, Tismana, and Rovinari.  OMV Petrom and CE Oltenia are developing the projects as equal partners, each holding a 50 per cent stake. They are scheduled to become operational in 2026.

RWE sells 350 MW Polish offshore wind project to PGE

RWE has entered into an agreement with PGE for the sale of the F.E.W. Baltic II offshore wind project in the Polish Baltic Sea. The project has a planned installed capacity of 350 MW and is located around 50 km off the coast, north of Ustka. The transaction is expected to reach financial close in the first quarter of 2026. As part of the arrangement, RWE has completed the transfer of the documentation for the neighbouring offshore wind site.

Ren-Gas secures financing for e-methane production in Finland

Nordic Ren-Gas Oy has raised approximately €16 million in a growth financing round. The funding round also saw participation from Taaleri Investments Ltd and Tesi. Additionally, it saw participation from the company’s existing shareholders, Allianz, and Suomen Tavara ja Raha Oy. The raised capital is intended to support renewable e-methane production for the heavy transport and shipping sector in Finland.

ENCAVIS secures financing to acquire 265 MW Italian solar portfolio

ENCAVIS has secured a €200 million non-bridge financing facility to fund the acquisition of the Italian solar portfolio known as Giotto, with a total capacity of 265 MW. The financing will be used to acquire the portfolio from EDP Renewables Italia. Additionally, the financing for the acquisition has been provided by UniCredit on a non-recourse basis. The portfolio comprises five solar parks located in Italy, with three projects situated in Lazio and two in Puglia.
