SolarAfrica secures financial close for 114 MW solar project 

SolarAfrica has achieved financial close of R 1.5 billion for the development of SunCentral 2, a 114 MW solar plant in the Northern Cape. The funding has been arranged through RMB and Investec Bank Limited. The project is scheduled to begin supplying power in 2026. SunCentral 2 follows SunCentral 1, which also has a capacity of 114 MW and reached financial close at the end of 2024.

GSI secures financing for Turning Sun solar project in Canada

Greenwood Sustainable Infrastructure (GSI), the North American renewable energy subsidiary of Libra Group, has reached financial close on a construction-to-term facility and an investment tax credit bridge financing for its 100 MWac Turning Sun solar project. The financing totals more than $200 million and supports the development, construction, and long-term operation of the project.

ib vogt divests 272 MWp Irish solar portfolio

ib vogt has completed the sale of a 272 MWp solar portfolio in Ireland for a total enterprise value of approximately €230 million. The portfolio comprises three utility-scale projects: Gaskinstown with a capacity of 94.7 MWp in County Meath, Rathnaskilloge with a capacity of 107.7 MWp in County Waterford, and Clonin North with a capacity of 69.4 MWp in County Offaly. The assets were developed by Highfield Solar, an ib vogt’s joint venture.

GULF secures financing for 939 MW renewable projects in Thailand

Gulf Development Public Company Limited (GULF) has secured loan facilities worth approximately $1.9 billion to support the development of 27 renewable projects in Thailand with a total generation capacity of 939 MW. The financing has been arranged through the company’s renewable energy and waste-to-energy subsidiaries. The portfolio comprises 15 solar and solar-plus-storage projects along with 12 waste-to-energy plants.

UK auctions 4.9 GW solar and 1.3 GW onshore wind projects

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero of UK has announced the results of a clean energy auction, spanning solar, onshore wind, and tidal projects. Around 4.9 GW of solar capacity was awarded across 157 projects, 1.3 GW of onshore wind from 28 projects, and 20.9 MW of tidal capacity from four projects. The tariffs for onshore wind capacity was £72.24 per MWh, while the tariff for solar projects was £65.23 per MWh.

TotalEnergies and Google ink 1 GW solar PPAs in Texas

TotalEnergies has entered into two long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) to supply 1,000 MW of solar capacity to Google for its data centres in Texas over a 15-year period. The agreements cover renewable electricity generation of approximately 28 TWh during the contract term. Power will be sourced from two solar projects, namely the 805 MWp Wichita project and the 195 MWp Mustang Creek project.

Neoen begins construction of three solar projects in France

Neoen has initiated construction of three new solar farms in France with a combined capacity of 230 MWp, all scheduled to become operational by 2028. The projects include the Le Couret agrisolar project with a capacity of 147 MWp in the Haute-Vienne department, along with the Isle-sur-Marne solar farm of 48 MWp and the Matignicourt floating solar farm of 35 MWp both located in the La Marne department.

Avangrid begins operations of two solar projects in Oregon

Avangrid, Inc., a member of the Iberdrola Group, has commenced commercial operation of two solar projects in Wasco County, Oregon, namely Daybreak Solar and Bakeoven Solar. The two plants together provide a combined installed capacity of 269 MWdc, equivalent to 200 MWac. Daybreak Solar accounts for 189 MWdc, or 140 MWac; while Bakeoven Solar contributes 80 MWdc, or 60 MWac.

Younan to develop solar-plus-storage project in California 

Younan Company has announced the development of a large utility-scale solar and battery storage project in California under Soleil Renewable Energy, LLC. The project is planned in East Kern county, on approximately 3,200 acres of owned land. It will have a solar generation capacity of 880 MWdc, equivalent to 700 MWac, paired with a 460 MW battery energy storage system. Commercial operations are targeted for mid-2028.

Voltalia bags 132 MW solar project in Tunisia

Voltalia has been awarded a 132 MW solar project in the Gabès region of south-east Tunisia by the Tunisian government. Construction of the Wadi solar project is scheduled to begin in 2027, with commissioning planned for 2028. With the addition of the Wadi project, Voltalia’s total solar capacity in Tunisia that is planned to move into the construction phase has reached nearly 400 MW.

Nextpower Arabia to supply trackers for Bisha solar project

Nextpower Arabia, a joint venture (JV) between Nextpower and Abunayyan Holding, will supply 2.25 GWp of solar tracking systems to Larsen & Toubro for the Bisha solar project in Saudi Arabia. METLEN and the Tsakos Group have entered into a strategic partnership to jointly develop, construct, operate, and commercially manage a large hybrid power generation project in Greece.
