ENCAVIS secures financing to acquire 265 MW Italian solar portfolio

ENCAVIS has secured a €200 million non-bridge financing facility to fund the acquisition of the Italian solar portfolio known as Giotto, with a total capacity of 265 MW. The financing will be used to acquire the portfolio from EDP Renewables Italia. Additionally, the financing for the acquisition has been provided by UniCredit on a non-recourse basis. The portfolio comprises five solar parks located in Italy, with three projects situated in Lazio and two in Puglia.

EDF Renewables has secured $10 million debt financing from the Mirova Gigaton Fund. The financing will support the company’s off-grid businesses in Africa under the EDF Energy For All platform. In Africa, EDF Renewables, through the EDF Energy For All platform and its subsidiaries, is providing off-grid energy solutions that help isolated rural communities gain access to reliable electricity.

Egypt and France ink agreement for green hydrogen project 

Egypt and France have inked an agreement to establish an integrated green hydrogen and derivatives production complex, including green ammonia, in the Ras Shukeir region of Egypt. The project will consist of three phases and is expected to draw investments of approximately €7 billion. Furthermore, once operational, the project is expected to generate approximately one million tonnes of green ammonia annually.

EDFR and PSEI commence operations of California solar project

EDF Renewables North America (EDFR) and Power Sustainable Energy Infrastructure (PSEI) have announced that their jointly owned Desert Quartzite solar+storage project achieved operational status in December 2024. It has a solar capacity of 375 MWdc/300 MWac and an energy storage capacity of 150 MWac/4 hour. The energy generated from this project is being delivered to the clean power alliance under a 20 year power purchase agreement.

EDF, KOWEPO and Masdar secure funding for 1.5 GW solar project

EDF Renewables, Korea Western Power (KOWEPO), and Masdar announced the financial closing of the 1.5 GW AC Al Ajban Solar Photovoltaic independent power producer project in Abu Dhabi. The project company, with EDF Renewables and KOWEPO each holding a 20 percent stake and Masdar holding a 60 percent stake, signed a 30-year power purchase agreement with the Emirates Water and Electricity Company to design, finance, build, and operate the plant.

EWEC selects partners to develop 1.5 GW solar project in Abu Dhabi

EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) has chosen EDF Renewables and Korea Western Power Company (KOWEPO), in collaboration with Masdar as the local partner, to develop the 1.5 GW Al Ajban Solar PV Independent Power Project. The project’s Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) was subsequently signed between EWEC and the stakeholders. This signing event occurred at the World Future Energy Summit.

Masdar, EDF Renewables and Nesma secure bid for Saudi Arabian solar plant

Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPCC) has awarded the consortium of Masdar, EDF Renewables and Nesma Renewable Energy a contract to construct the 1,100 MW Al Henakiyah solar plant in Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, the companies have inked a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Saudi Power Procurement Company. The SPPC awarded the consortium the project after it submitted the bid of $16.84 per MWh.

EDF Renewables (UK and Ireland) has acquired SAS Energy, a solar energy provider for the commercial and industrial sectors. On September 15, SAS Energy became a fully owned subsidiary of EDF. EDF now owns more than 45 of SAS projects which are both in development and construction. Reportedly, the two companies have a pre-established relationship.

Eoliennes en Mer Manche Normandie, a consortium of EDF Renewables and Maple Power, will build a 1 GW offshore wind facility known as Centre Manche 1 off the coast of Normandy, France. The project company has been announced as the winner of an offshore wind tender launched by the French Ministry of Energy Transition in January 2021. The offshore facility, which will be constructed 32 km off the coast of the Normandy departments of Manche and Calvados, will be able to supply more than 1.5 million people with all of their annual electricity requirements.

Boralex acquires a 50 per cent stake in five wind farms

Boralex has finalised the acquisition of a 50 per cent stake in five functioning wind farms totaling 894 MW in the US from EDF Renewables. These projects include the 50 MW Milo and 250 MW Roosevelt developments in New Mexico, as well as the 200 MW Hereford, 200 MW Longhorn, and 194 MW Spinning Spur projects in Texas. Each location was put into service between 2014 and 2016, and all of them feature Vestas turbines, with Hereford also comprising machines from GE Renewable Energy.

EDF Renewables and Budimex plan offshore wind investments in Poland

EDF Group subsidiary EDF Renewables UK Ltd Renewables has inked an agreement with Budimex to make an investment in offshore wind farm development in Poland. On a 50-50 basis, the two companies will focus on the country’s second phase of offshore development. In the second phase, EDF Renewables UK Ltd Renewables and Budimex identified 11 new sites for offshore wind farm development in the Polish Baltic Sea region.

EDF Renewables UK starts construction works at two solar projects

EDF Renewables UK, the UK branch of the French energy firm, has announced that two of its solar projects have started the site preparation and construction phases. These projects, Porth Wen facility in Anglesey and the Burwell project in southeast Cambridgeshire, have a combined capacity of about 100 MW. These projects are expected to be online by the fourth quarter of 2022.

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has awarded EDF Renewables North America a 1 GW solar and battery storage contract as part of its 2021 solicitation for large-scale renewable energy certificates. The Columbia Solar Energy Centre and Ridge View Solar Energy Centre, each with 350 MWac of capacity and 20 MW of co-located battery storage, are among the solar projects included in the contract.

CS Energy signs MoU with EDF Renewables for 230 MW wind farm

CS Energy, an Australian electricity company, has signed a MoU with EDF Renewables for the construction of the 230 MW Banana Range Wind Farm in Central Queensland. The Banana Range Wind Farm, which will be in the Biloela region, will be able to generate enough clean energy to power 15,000 homes. During the construction phase, the project is planned to provide 150 jobs. Construction on the site is set to begin in 2024, with the project slated to be completed in 2026.

Four winners in India’s 1.2 GW wind auction

The winners of the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) auction (Tranche-XII) for the 1.2 GW interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected wind power projects are NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, Halvad Renewables (EDF Renewables), JSW Neo Energy, and Torrent Power. NTPC Renewables won 200 MW for Rs 2.89 per kWh, while EDF won 300 MW for Rs 2.93 per kWh. JSW and Torrent Power were awarded 300 MW each at Rs 2.94 per kWh.
