Germany awards 2.5 GW onshore wind projects

Germany’s Federal Network Agency has announced the results of its August 2026 onshore wind auction. A total of 461 bids totalling 5,250 MW were submitted while the auction offered 2,520 MW, making the auction significantly oversubscribed. A total of 237 bids, totalling 2,523 MW were awarded, while 17 bids were excluded. Furthermore, the successful bids ranged from 4.49-4.98 cents per kWh, with the average weighted award price falling to 4.79 cents per kWh, down from the previous auction round, which had an average weighted award price of 5.06 cents per kWh.

Actis launches Yeltica Energy in Mexico

Actis has launched Yeltica Energy, a greenfield renewable energy platform in Mexico. The platform targets more than 2 GW of solar, wind and battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity. The platform is anchored by three solar-plus-storage projects awarded under Mexico’s first Mixed Investment Tender by the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE). These projects together comprise approximately 330 MWp of solar  photovoltaic and 255 MWh of BESS.

RWE and Oracle sign 433 MW wind VPPA in Texas

RWE has signed a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with Oracle for 433 MW of electricity from its Panther Creek I, II and III wind farms in West Texas. The projects, located across Sterling, Howard and Glasscock counties, form part of Oracle’s broader portfolio of over 1.7 GW of power investments in Texas. Furthermore, Panther Creek I and II projects were repowered in 2019, while Panther Creek III wind farm was repowered in 2021.

Central Queensland Power secures approval for 360 MW wind project

Central Queensland Power (CQP) has received approval for the Moah Creek wind project from the Australian Government under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act 1999. The project, located about 30 km west of Rockhampton, will comprise up to 60 wind turbines with a capacity of 360 MW. The project will also provide more than $33 million in community benefits over its operating life.

Skyborn Renewables has achieved financial close for the Gennaker offshore wind farm located in Germany’s Baltic Sea. The project has an installed capacity of up to 976.5 MW. The project has secured a €2.1 billion non-recourse financing package from a consortium of 16 commercial lenders and the European Investment Bank, with the total investment exceeding €3 billion. The project is targeted for commercial operations by the end of 2028.

Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE) has signed a corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) for its Formosa 6 offshore wind project with Star Trade in Taiwan. The project was awarded 800 MW in Taiwan’s second auction round under the Phase 3 Zonal Development programme in 2024. This project marks SRE’s fourth offshore wind project in Taiwan. Furthermore, the project is expected to generate sufficient clean electricity to supply approximately 860,000 households annually.

Infinity Power and Hassan Allam Utilities Energy have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Co. (EETC) for the Ras Shokeir wind project. The project, located in Egypt, will add 1 GW of wind generation capacity to the grid. Furthermore, once operational, the project is expected to supply clean electricity to more than 1.2 million households while offsetting over 1.36 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), through its Copenhagen Infrastructure V fund, has acquired the Gawara Baya hybrid project located in North Queensland, Australia. The project was acquired from Windlab. The project combines a 408 MW onshore wind farm comprising 68 wind turbines with a 104 MW grid-forming battery energy storage system (BESS). Commercial operations for the project are expected in 2030.

Amazon has signed four power purchase agreements (PPAs) for wind projects in Sweden. The agreements are expected to add approximately 200 MW of new carbon-free energy capacity. The projects include the Fageråsen, Boarp, Dållebo and Fågelås wind projects, which are being developed by OX2 and Eolus. Furthermore, the Fageråsen project will have a capacity of 132 MW, while the Boarp, Dållebo and Fågelås projects have capacities of 17.5 MW, 18 MW and 31.5 MW, respectively.

Maine PUC selects Clearway Energy Group to develop 800 MW wind project

The Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has selected Clearway Energy Group to develop a wind project in Aroostook county. The wind project will have an installed capacity of 800 MW. Additionally, the commission has selected Avangrid to develop a high-voltage transmission line connecting the project to the New England grid. Furthermore, Maine PUC plans to procure 600 MW of electricity from the project, while the remaining power will be supplied to the other New England states.

TotalEnergies Gas & Power Limited has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Offshore Partners Walney (OPW) for electricity generated by the Walney I and II offshore wind farms located in UK. The projects, located in the Irish Sea and operated by Ørsted, have a cumulative installed capacity of 367 MW. Furthermore, OPW owns a 24.8 per cent stake in the project. Under the agreement, TotalEnergies will purchase renewable energy guarantees of origin (REGO)-backed electricity from OPW’s share of the project’s generation.

WestWind Energy has received planning approval for the Normanville Energy Park. The park will consist of a 122 MW wind power facility and will feature up to 17 wind turbines. Furthermore, project construction is expected to attract approximately $350 million in investment.

The project comprises 18 Vestas wind turbines of 6.5 MW each, delivering a total installed wind capacity of 117 MW. The project will also include a 60 MW/240 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The wind farm is expected to generate around 330 GWh of electricity annually.
